I'm a girlfriend-kind-of-girl. I love having women in my life. In fact, I think women who claim they don’t need a girlfriend just haven’t found a good one yet.
I don't have that problem. I am surrounded by an abundance of the most remarkable women God ever created to be my sister, mother, daughters and friends. It’s a blessing I don’t take lightly. Quite simply, having such dear women in my life makes my heart tingle.
Especially one. The Tingle-Heart collection is dedicated to my precious friend and mentor, who recently died of ovarian cancer. Upon her deathbed, Candy made me promise to celebrate the essence of her life by continually embracing my own. I feel her presence every time I pick up a brush or sit down to write.

Pretending
to Be Normal
William Shakespeare wrote,
"This above all,
To thine own self be true."
Boy, did he nail it on the head!
A lot of us go through phases
Where we think we have to be,
Act, and look
Like everyone else in order to fit in.
I tried it, and it didn’t work.
Now I realize that
God doesn’t want an orchestra
Of identical instruments
All playing the same tune,
So I let go of the status quo
And decided to just be me.
Beside, pretending to be
A normal person
Day-after-day is exhausting!

Life is Too Short
to Wear Pantyhose
I can't think of anything
More uncomfortable,
Claustrophobic or irritating
Than a pair of pantyhose.
Whoever invented them
Either hated women,
Was into sadistic torture or,
At the very least,
Never tried a pair on themselves.
I'd rather have a root canal
Than shimmy and shake myself into a pair.
Much less proceed
To wear them all day.
It doesn’t help that such stockings
Are usually associated
With some sort of
Confining, unyielding,
Contoured shoe
That squeezes the life
Out of my feet.
Besides, how can I show off
A new pedicure,
Tiny toe rings and funky flip-flops
If I’m squeezed into
Such a ridiculous contraption?
Life is just too short
To wear pantyhose!
